PHOTOS ARRL VHF/UHF CONTESTS Jan/Sept 2005

It was a cold weekend but the AERO club W3PGA won the southeast section for limited operator in the January ARRL VHF/UHF contest in 2005.  It was 10 degrees F Monday morning when we had to break down and pack to go back to Baltimore.  It had snowed a lot Saturday night contributing to snow already on the ground to a total of about 2 feet.  The operators were Bob WA3SWA and AL K3ROJ.  We were located in Elk Garden, West Virginia in FM09kj grid section.

Bob WA3SWA and AL K3ROJ made the trip again in September 2005 to West Virginia for the ARRL VHF/UHF contest.  There were also many other stations in the contest competing with us especially K8GP who was located on Spruce Knob, WV.  The 6 meter band was wide open that Sunday evening a few hours after a great Aurora Sunday morning where we worked many stations bouncing our signal off of the north pole Aurora curtain.  The next trip will include 10 GHz since we were at 2300 feet elevation.

The Elecraft XV transverters are a good match with the ICOM 756PRO
Logging was done by networking the computers through a wireless router.

The 3 band IC910H is a contesters VHF rig and we found a 1296 beacon on a nearby mountain.
