These QSL cards were used over the years by our club all the way back to the 1940's after WW2 when radio operators were again allowed to use their transmitters.  The club acquired an old barracks building on Wilson Point Road in Middle River, MD donated by the Martins plant in the 1940's up until the mid 60's when Martins decided they wanted the building removed from their land.  The club then held meetings at Warren W3JDF's house for a few years and even had an old contractors trailer at one time.  For a while we held meetings at Kenwood High School thanks to Joe Donat, K3IVM who is now a Silent Key and was a science teacher for many years at Kenwood.  The School now has the call K3KHS but presently doesn't have a school radio club.  The club now meets at Coffmans Snack Bar but to expand membership, it would become necessary to relocate again.  Here are some QSL cards the club used over the years.

WHERE DID THE WORD "HAM" ORIGINATE

HERTZ-ARMSTRONG-MARCONI

Heinrich Hertz was  a German Physicist who helped to develop the theory of electromagnetic waves. Hertz even detected them with a spark.

Edwin Howard Armstrong
started as a teenager as a radio amateur and was a star student in electrical engineering at Columbia. In 1912 he figured out how to improve the audion dramatically. Armstrong developed the regenerative oscillator. In 1914 he demonstrated his idea to the Marconi Company, where David Sarnoff realized its importance.

Guglielmo Marconi used sparks to create radio waves. He grew up in Italy the son of an Italian father and a Scotch-Irish mother. In 1899 Marconi successfully linked England and France across the English channel (where there was already a cable)--more significant was transmission from ships. Marconi transmitted signals across the Atlantic in 1901.

The name of this song is "CQ Serenade" which was composed sometime between 1965 and 1970 by Maurice Durieux, VE2QS. Durieux was orchestra conductor employed by Radio Canada who had immigrated to Canada from France.  Assisting Duriux in the creation of the song was F9KT. CQ Serenade was first recorded with French lyrics by Raymond Girerd. An English language version written by VE2QS and by Georges Brewer, then VE2BR, of Montreal. It was later covered by songstress Joyce Hahn.   Here are two versions in English and French.

Not certain as to who composed this neat Morse Code training tune but believe it was an amateur radio operator in Canada.  A person can actually learn the code by listening to this song.

This is an important message concerning raising our children in today's technical world.  It is an audio documentary and should be played in all schools.

Frank AC3P found an old Rag tune on the internet only as sheet music called "AERO RAG" and thought it would be nice to have it as our theme song.  Bob WA3SWA gave it to his friend Dr. Eugene Dangelo, N3XKS in Pennsylvania who played and recorded it for the club.  The tune was composed back in 1910 by Bert F. Grant.  Total playing time 2min 23sec  in MP3 format.  The thumbnails below contain two pages of the original music.

Recent scientific studies have found that during the day in a week a person was born they have a much better chance winning at certain things such as taking a test, improving their love life, playing the lottery and even working better DX which is what this Java Script was written for. If an AERO Club meeting happens to fall on a members special day, let us know and you will receive a prize. If you were born before the year 1900 you will receive a unique message. Good Luck!
