MARYLAND REPEATERS

FCC AMATEUR RADIO

AERO CLUB REPEATERS

Since many members haven't seen the repeater location at Kenwood High School, photos will be taken in the repeater room with information describing how each unit works along with some video showing the antennas and someone communicating through both repeaters.

Recently the large backup batteries which were connected to a UPS device went dead.  The 147.24 and 449.575 repeaters were down for about three days until AC3P and K3ROJ went up and disconnected the UPS, then reconnected the main power cord directly to the 120 volt AC mains.  Thanks to Bob WA3SWA, the club presently has 8 each 12 volt 33 Ampere Hour backup batteries stored at K3ROJ's location kept under trickle charge.  The club is waiting for a day soon when we can arrange a work party to take the batteries up to the repeater location.  Each battery is 6.25" height, 7" wide and 5" deep weighing only about 30 pounds unlike an automotive battery.  The new batteries will be connected in a series-parallel arrangement at the repeater site to sustain the 48 volt UPS unit in the event of a power failure.
