AERO CLUB "W3PGA" FIELD DAY 2010

The Aero Amateur Radio and the BRATS Club will be joining forces for the 2010 ARRL Field Day operation. The location is the same as in previous years, Camp Genyara near the Pennsylvania state line (see map). Field Day operation will start at 2pm, Saturday June 27th and end at 2pm, Sunday June 28th. We will be starting setup on Friday afternoon, the 26th, at approximately 2-3pm. Our objective is to have at least one station on the air Friday for casual QSOs and then complete setup on Saturday. The final station configuration has not yet been determined but there will be at least one hf voice transmitter, one hf cw transmitter, and one vhf/uhf multimode transmitter. We may also setup PSK31, satellite, and solar power stations.

The location is rustic. We have 2 large pavilions with picnic tables. One is used for the operating positions and the kitchen and the other is used for sleeping. There is a large field available for pitching tents, etc. You will need to supply your own food and drink. Electricity is supplied by a generator of adequate size to easily handle all stations.

For additional information, contact Bob Landis, WA3SWA. Email address is wa3swa (at) cavtel (dot) net.

AERO ARC / BRATS Field Day location - June 26/27 2010

GPS Info: Grid FM19qq 39.7043N 76.618W

From Baltimore, take I 83 North to Exit 36, Route 439 East.

Take 439 East approximately 1 mile to BOND RD.

Turn left onto BOND RD.

Take BOND RD. approximately 1/2 mile to a dirt road on the left. (If you come to a barn and farmhouse on the left, you have gone too far.) Turn left onto the dirt road, follow it through the field and through a grove of tall pine trees. The pine trees have created a tunnel over the road. The Field Day site is at the end of the pine trees.  See the GOOGLE map below where you can resize the map, drag it and change veiw to satellite where you can actually see the pavilions at the end of the pine tree row.   Camp Genyara isn't very far from I-83 and the Mason Dixon Line.  Shrewsury, Pa. is only a few miles north on I-83 if food or other items may be needed.  There is a carry-out store/Gas station about 2 mile from the site.

Doug, AI3G put a lot of effort in figuring out 4 possible antenna layouts for Field Day 2008 to help eliminate any cross station interference and there is no reason we can't use it again this year in 2010.  Take a look at these layouts and let Doug know which you think may work for this Field Day.  The loop antenna shown can be fed by a remote automatic tuner which will work all bands.

Thanks to Doug AI3G, we have an accurate drawing of the Field Day site and satellite view where plans can be made to install antennas to prevent overloading certain bands.  In 2007 we had some problems operating 20 meter CW while the 40 meter band was being used.  The club now uses some special bandpass filters made by the ICE Company in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The Satellite view and drawing is in JPG format and can be downloaded by right clicking for your own use.  Below are the specifications of the "ICE" bandpass filters in PDF format.

The covers were temorarily removed for a photo showing the insides of the ICE Filters for 80/75, 40m and 20 meter bands.  Not having facilities to printout a spectrum display from the analyzer, a plot was made by hand.  Phil W3VRD donated a 6 meter ICE filter in the event the six meter band opens up and we experience any interference from our lower band operations.

The club met Randy Wallace during the 2006 Field Day event.  Randy who maintains the grounds at Camp Genyara goes beyond his duties by cleaning both pavilions so all we have to do is place our usual plastic table cloths at each operating position.
